Published : 07/Jul/2025

Bring your picnics, chairs and blankets as Theatre Severn’s open air theatre season returns to Shrewsbury Castle this summer! With a programme packed with performances from some of the UK’s best theatre companies, expect Shakespeare, mini pop concerts, comedy, family favourites and more.

On Thursday 24 July, Three Inch Fools present a totally brand-new Tudor comedie – Elizabeth I. Elizabethan theatre is flourishing but will this musical romp be the making of this heroine?

Join your favourite princesses on Sunday 27 July as Once Upon A Party return with an interactive Princess Picnic experience. Expect plenty of songs, dances and photo opportunities.

On Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 July, The Lord Chamberlain's Men return with Shakespeare’s much-loved romantic comedy - Twelfth Night. True to tradition, this joyous play is performed in the open air by an all-male cast in Elizabethan costumes.

Calling all little Swifties! Hear all your favourite Taylor Swift songs in a Mini Pop Party performance on Sunday 3 August. Set against the stunning grounds of Shrewsbury Castle, this will be a Taylor Swift themed pop concert like no other.

The Pantaloons Theatre Company return on Sunday 3 August with a funny and fast paced adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. Expect live music, romance and heartbreak.

On Thursday 7 August Three Inch Fools are back with Shakespeare’s most iconic comedy – A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Deep in an enchanted forest mischief is stirring. With trouble-maker Puck at the helm, the course of true love never did run smooth.

Quantum Theatre bring their lively adaptation of Alice Through the Looking Glass on Sunday 10 August. This brand-new production delivers all the quirky Britishness of the book in a fun and pacy show for all the family.

To round off the summer programme, the multi-award nominated Immersion Theatre return with The Wind in the Willows on Thursday 14 August. Expect heaps of audience interaction, stunning costumes, music and larger-than-life characters.
